90 on the intro: lovin your sample work and the whole atmosphere of it all...makes me feel like i'm in the swamps of dagobah :P on the buildup/kick-in: the buildup, though short, was appropriate and felt right with the vocal sample, the kick in was done wonderfully, especially the almost IDM feeling from 1:10 to 1:30 although I feel there could've been some areas that could use some tiny fills to ... More keep it goin a little. btw the bass sound you have is so unique and ear teasing :P
on the breakdown/2nd build: once again, like the buildup the breakdown and build to the drop just felt so right with the sample and the "far away" kind of sound it has makes the 2nd kick in that much more intense and spontaneous, with the only warning being the nicely filtered drum break coming in 4 measures before the kick. I think some quiet, klaxon like horn layered under the pads would've added that one touch, I think, that would've made it perfect, maybe put it in with the drum sample before the kick, like a warning almost.
on the 2nd kick-in: Better than the 1st, and the 1st was already good :). I love your amen work coupled with the IDM structuring of the sounds and your creeping bass, almost sounding like it's coming in to say hey every once in a while. Also your use of the crm, reverse, and reverb is pretty clever; subtle, but there enough to give it what it needs. really love that little "bass solo" from 3:11 to 3:14.
on the outro: I usually prefer kind of an obvious sense in the music that the outro has begun, because I listen to my songs mainly while driving and being able to know either how much time i have to rest(from "rockin out" too hard) or how much time i have to find the next song is pretty essential to me...but this lol this, i love how seamless the outro comes out of the kick-in. I had to play it at least 2 or 3 times before I was sure where the outro started. The outro feels almost like the intro, but in a weird way. It's different enough that I knew it was the outro, but similar enough that it makes me prepared for another build and kick. I just play it over and over instead :P
final thoughts: It is a wonderful, dark, foreign feeling dnb track, definitely the vocal work being a part of that, with some IDM influences. It's got a kind of chill feel, but has enough upbeat samples and drum work in it to keep you goin. It has incredible replay value and i'm definitely gonna favorite this on soundcloud. 9/10This review is helpful (+1 from 1 person) |
