90 About time we saw another submission from Mr. Abstract! True to previous form, this is a track consisting of vibes so chilled, it has icicles dropping from its bars. However, this is a progression from his previous submissions both musically and programmatically, and is worth a close listen on headphones to fully appreciate the details. This is no ambient-by-numbers tune, a fact hinted at by the ... More IDM-ish drum programming and deliciously off-key flourishes in the opening few bars. When it finally breaks down and develops into the second theme, the result is a very pleasant surprise that I won't ruin here. Needless to say it saves the tune from the inevitable threat of repetition and pushes it on like only the best productions do.
Scores highly for originality, largely because it breaks formula and doesn't stay on the safe trail like so many tunes of its kind. Production-wise it's lush and crispy in all the right places, and structurally it's nigh-on perfect, engaging to the last deliciously offkey bar. Abstract's best tune to date... so, worth waiting for I guess! This review is helpful (+1 from 1 person) |

70 Marc has it right with his "off key" assessment. Unfortunately I do not find ofkey to be delicious in this case. I really can't get past that vocal, it throws off a otherwise great track. If it was in key this would be a standout for me. I love the moody vibe and could see myself playing it during 5am sets... if it was not for the vocal. Any chance of a version without the vocal?
