In part it's because I like this semi-oldskool sound, but it's also down to not being competent in getting a more modern sound. I've recently found that limiting single hits helps a lot (I used to just limit the drum buss), but there is obviously some knowledge to be discovered..

Being that you wrote the ratings system, and that 10 means the track has absolutely no flaws or room for improvement... I dunno. Jus sayin.

A 10 rating will always cause controversy because perfection is subjective. I genuinely don't feel there is anything wrong with this track at all, which makes it a 10 from me. Others disagree, and have offered their views too, which is why the tune has an overall rating in the 80s rather than 100. That's the beauty of a democratic rating system

Cheers. I knew that synth is a "love it or hate it" kind of thing, but I like making those sorts of contrasts in my tracks. Organic/synthetic, happy/dark etc.

Hi mate! I guess a square wave stands out a lot due to the otherwise pretty soft mix. I like it myself, but understand it's not for everyone. My goal was to finish this tune really quickly, so instead of losing myself making synth patches (which can easily happen to me) I just flicked quickly through some of my existing patches and found this. My biggest fear is getting sick of a tune before it's even finished...this is maybe the first time in years I've avoided that, as I finished the track in one weekend :-)

You are right, the intro is quite different from the rest of the track. The thing with the main sample is that it fills almost the whole frequency spectrum and I wanted something stripped down to make the tune easy to mix in.

Very happy to hear people like the mixdown as that has always been my biggest weakness. I have oversensitive ears (hyperacusis) which makes loud or even moderately loud monitoring impossible without using earplugs. So I have to switch between monitoring at very low levels without plugs, and louder levels with plugs.

By the way, the thin-sounding guitar (not the sound that starts the tune) in this track is myself playing. I got an electric guitar in June and am just starting to be able to get some usable sounds out of the thing. It's a lot of fun layering acoustic recordings into a dnb track!

thanks for the support mate :-) I checked out your track the other day but I was listening on my shitty laptop speakers which are basically like a highpass filter at 300 Hz. Need to hear it at home for a proper listen, I reckon.

I don't consider or call myself a pro, so I think you've misunderstood my comment on your track. What I was trying to say was that you could benefit from analysing tracks by the pros (like Fresh). Everyone can benefit from that.

Regarding my tune, I am fully aware it is not an original concept, but if it makes people happy I have reached my goal.

This rating should be deleted, to be honest as it is completely useless and is in a burst of upset.

The ratings system was designed to nullify the effects of this kind of rating on its own, which it has done effectively. So - no need to delete it.
