100 I've been a big fan of Ghost in A Shell for some time, also tried to create something a while back with Inner Universe. You never fail to please with your tracks, it's simply beautiful. Drums at the beginning fit nicely and are as warm as the pads in the intro lots of ghost kicks in there too. I like them, gives me something else to focus on from time to time. You have some great little fills in ... More there, too. The sound that really makes this alive is the vocals.
Sounds like you've worked around the vocals and tried not to touch them, which is a pretty damn good idea. This remix is excellent in all forms, I've really enjoyed it & it's going to be played repetitively on my stereo. I can't praise you enough on how much I like it, it's beautiful. If all Dubstep was as laid back as this I'd probably jump on it and enjoy the style just as much as I'm sure you do.
Great stuff, you aim to please! This review is helpful (+1 from 1 person) |

90 Camptivating, very well produced, and arranged... The intro was misleading for me, but in a good way. the drop into the vocal was perfectly executed and it went from something i thought was going to be more melancholy to something rather comforting and hopeful. I've never heared the original, i don't watch anime... but im sure this does it more than justice. This review is helpful (+1 from 1 person) |

90 Nice one, really love Ghost in the Shell and the whole soundtrack. I hear some tribal drum sounds from the soundtrack in the intro too, and this typical tamborine(?) in the mid part. I used that pretty often too :) This review is helpful (+1 from 1 person) |

60 I don't wish to be controversial here, but I think everyone's getting a bit carried away with this tune. I am very familiar with the original which, for those unfamiliar with it, is basically the vocal and a very, very minimal arrangement. It's hauntingly beautiful precisely because the vocals are the heartbeat of the tune, and Kenji Kawai lets them carry the melody, arrangement and emotion all ... More on their own.
Ben Kama's version feels more like a mid-90s Enigma tune. The samples he's chosen fit very well, but when you strip out the vocals there's very little in terms of originality: the beats don't change, the bassline just follows the melodic structure of the vocals like an obedient puppy (and feels weak in the sub area), and the pad is straight from the sound banks of most off-the-shelf Yamaha or Korg keyboards in my opinion. Worst of all, the key shift into minor which is so jarringly beautiful in the original is handled quite clumsily here, quickly shifting back into the main theme as if trying to cover up a performance error before anyone notices.
It's very well put together, but in the world of remixes I tend to look for a significant reinterpretation that either adds something new to the original intent, or expresses the same emotion within a different structural or genre context. I don't feel this does either, I'm afraid. Ben has written way better tunes than this. This review is helpful (+1 from 1 person) |

80 This is my personal favorite. I have listened to it so many times and really like it. Thank you for uploading it. BUT I do understand now ( just listened to the original recently ) that that the reason why I like it, is mainly because of vocals. Amazing, how great they are! That`s the problem with taking something very good already and trying to do something with it. It is difficult to ... More make it better. It´s actually much easier to make it sound worse. From my unprofessional point of view, you haven´t made it worse. You just went a bit too safe and didn´t try to add much more to the original or do something bold and take a bit of risk. But as I said before I still like this tune a lot! Keep up good work, I am definitely waiting with interest to listen to your new uploads. Kiitos!

70 So I'm a huge fan just in general of tunes that remix this song. There was a DnB version of this song 10+ years ago that I used to think was an absolute jam. So basically, you've got me hooked from the get go with this tune. I think you did a pretty good making everything fit together nicely, but I don't think you did enough with it. I would have liked to hear more percussion work in here. The ... More drums are very repetitive, and IMO could have used a lot more variation. Also, I'd have likes to hear you play off the elements from the sample, or even change the sample up so that you did something with it that the original didn't do.
Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt this song would go over very well in the clubs. My only problem with it is it could be so much more. You are using an incredibly powerful sample, and you aren't adding enough to it.Nobody has rated this review yet. |
