70 gorgeous vocals, mixed really well in the track too. I love how the vocals get all cut up and arpeggiated right before the chorus comes back around 2:20 That synth with the crazy vocals with the bass is so good that the chorus loses its momentum by 2:20. I think it needs something just a little more to push it over the edge, that electric guitar is awesome but maybe it's not enough. I can ... More nit-pick about the arrangement and the sound choice, because your production is bang-on. Punchy drums at a nice pace, and all your effects/sounds sit nicely on the soundstage. Good stuff dude! This review is helpful (+1 from 1 person) |

70 I was (controversially) a huge fan of your last tune, because of its experimentalism and energy combined with the top vocals. There's a lot I like about this track too, but it doesn't quite succeed in the same way. For starters, the intro is gorgeous, building up beautifully like a good indie rock tune, though the vocals feel a bit thin but don't suffer too much when there's just the guitar, bass ... More and beats playing. The experimental arpeggiated bridge (if you can call it that) is nicely done, reminding me a bit of Animal Collective, but once the chorus kicks in at 2:05 the tune falters drastically. The vocals collapse into the background along with the guitars, and the beats dominate the front-end atop what by this point has become a bit of a lofi mess of vocal rock.
As the previous reviewer says, the track loses its momentum because too much is given in the arpeggiated bridge. It could be fixed quite simply; tone down the presence of the arpegs (which sound much louder than the rest of the track largely because of their extreme panning amongst other things), and bring up the vocals and guitars during the chorus. The track's energy progression into the chorus will be flipped and it will hugely improve its flow.
The other thing that needs improving is the drum track. They're simply too clean cut and uninteresting for a track like this, and you either need to do some more clever programming to keep them interesting or (and I would venture down this road) experiment with some more lofi/grungey samples to accompany the squeaky-clean breaks as they are. That, and they are much louder than everything else which is partly down to the general mixing issue mentioned in the previous paragraph but also a general point to note.
This has a lot of potential and I would be keen to hear a reworked version. Again I fear this may polarise opinion amongst the community here as it leans much more on the experimental alt rock side of the spectrum than electronic music, which to me is a very good thing but be prepared, possibly, for some negative feedback. This review is helpful (+1 from 1 person) |
