90 Okay, I'll admit that I do have a bit of a bias when it comes to this tune, as it was meant to be the first track released on the aborted Urban Therapy label back in 2004 (dnbscene's label back when we had a whole artist management side going on as well as the website). Having said that, the reasons we chose it for release back in the day still hold up today. And after Gabe has reworked it to ... More bring it up to 2010 standards, I still absolutely love this tune!
Why? Well, firstly it's very DJ friendly. The beats kick in hard and, as usual, are up to Fusebox's excellent programming skills. The structure is spot on, the build up lasting just the right length, the breakdowns coming at all the right times, and let's face it - this will fit into just about any set. But what makes it stand out for me are two things: the slightly oldskool vibe provided by the vocal sample (which is catchier than you first think, it stays in your head afterwards), and most of all... that BASSLINE. Each drop is simply massive; the sub bass is relentlessly step-worthy and the pulsing secondary bassline over the top (I've forgotten half my terminology for these things, dammit) works brilliantly to tie it together and cut through the fairly dense atmospherics. It's not much in the way of melody, but damn, it's simply banging. And that, in the end, is what drum and bass is all about.
I'm struggling to find a flaw. Maybe slightly too much sparkle on the high end? But I'm really nitpicking. This is a classic as far as I'm concerned. Fusebox does it again. This review is controversial (0 from 2 people) |
